Shirt to Dress Refashion

I am linking up with Sew Much Ado again this week for her We did it Wednesday post.  If you get a chance to pop over there you will not be disappointed there are loads of really talented people linking of their fun projects they have completed.  You can click on the We did it Wednesday button on my sidebar.

For this weeks Refashion Wednesday I decided to take a waffle knit shirt I found for Sophie at Value Village and turn it into a dress.

Since everything is about pink these days with her I decided to take some pink cotton lycra I had in my stash and add a bit to the shirt to give it a bit of length so it would be more of a dress length.

I first started by cutting the shirt just under the armpits so I could add a strip of pink there.  The lines of the fabric made it nice and easy to get a straight line.  I got the measurement for the width of the shirt at that point and doubled it so I had a piece long enough to go around.  I used that measurement and cut the strip 2 1/2 inches wide.

Ignore the fact that the shirt wasn’t laying flat on the bed making it look a bit uneven.  Once the strip at the top was added I decided to take the same fabric and add a strip at the bottom as well.  I originally thought a ruffle would be fun but due to my inability to do basic math I ended up ruffling it and by the time I loosened the ruffle to fit I realized I had only made it long enough to be a straight hem instead of 2 times as long.  Oh the joys of sewing, sometimes your idea’s go off without a hitch and other times you spend half the time unpicking all the sewing you just did.

The end result turned out pretty cute and will be a great every day dress for Sophie to wear.  And it’s pink so that is all that matters to my little fashionista.
