Sew the Year – February

With no specific plans for the month that would dictate my sewing I decided to take Sew the Year February as a chance to tackle patterns that have either been sitting around partial finished or patterns that just never seem to get cut out.

We all have mental or written lists of patterns that we want to work on and in many cases even have the fabric and notions.  But for whatever reason those projects just sit untouched.  The flip side is the patterns that are a work in progress.  For me the works in progress usually have something that bothers me to the point of knowing I will never actually wear them.

Two New Paper Patterns in the Shop

There are two new paper patterns in the shop!

Two New Paper Patterns - Straight Stitch Designs

It is equal parts exciting and nerve wracking when I get the copies of my paper patterns from the printer.  Even though I pour over the drafts multiple times I am always worried there is going to be some glaring mistake and then I will have a huge box of really expensive scrap paper.  Thankfully when the copies came back from the printer for Montlake and Wedgwood everything was correct, or at least no mistakes I can find right now.

Wedgwood Tester Roundup

I pretty much start every tester roundup saying the same exact thing, I have the best bunch of pattern testers around.  This amazing group of ladies make every single pattern I create so much better and I love working with new to me sewists with each round of testing.  My favourite part of a pattern release is definitely this post, so without further ado I am sharing with you the Wedgwood tester roundup!  Make sure to click over to the shop and grab your copy of the skirt while it is still marked down.

Wedgwood Skirt Pattern

The Wedgwood skirt pattern is ready for all you lovely ladies.

Every girl needs a pleated skirt in their wardrobe, something I didn’t realize until I started designing this pattern.  You see I wasn’t really a skirt wearing girl, sure I wore them occasionally but I just always found something I preferred to wear instead.  But once I started sewing and resewing the Wedgwood skirt pattern I realized just how much I enjoy the versatility of a high waisted skirt.  You can dress it up with heels and a silk shirt or keep it casual with a tee shirt and converse.  I am already dreaming of wearing one of these in the summer with a Greenwood tank and my favourite Birkenstocks.

Wedgwood Skirt Test Call from Straight Stitch Designs

Wedgwood Tester Call

It doesn’t get much better than pleats and pockets in a skirt, and the Wedgwood skirt has that and so much more.  Thanks to all the love and super helpful input on instagram from all you lovely ladies, the Wedgwood skirt is everything I thought it could be.  So happy to have it working out and looking great so I can put out the official Wedgwood tester call!

Montlake Tee Pattern

After what feels like a marathon of pattern testing with the greatest bunch of ladies around I am happy to be here today sharing my newest sewing pattern with all of you, Montlake.

Montlake Sewing Pattern by Straight Stitch Designs

This tee is everything you would want out of a new closet staple.  With clean lines and a great shape you can view it as a blank canvas to play around with different knits.  One of my testers couldn’t have put it better when she described this pattern to me, simple fashion.  Sometimes we just need some simple fashion in our lives and the Montlake tee is that.

Montlake Tester Call

Okay ladies I am going to stop taunting you with Instagram pictures and finally throw out some proper pictures of my newest pattern ready for testing.  Montlake is a relaxed fit tee with a very low scoop neck.  The pattern includes two neckband finishing options as well as 4 sleeve lengths.  As with my other patterns, this pattern is available in sizes 0-24 which accomidates a bust size of 32″ – 50.5″.  Montlake is sure to be the ultimate tee that’s a quick sew and very flattering for all body types with a slight swing to the bottom of the shirt.

My Overstock is Your Gain

When I was preparing for Urban Craft Uprising I was really flying blind.  Having never done a craft show before I had no real idea of how much inventory I would actually need.  When I heard that there were going to be upwards of 10,000 people I thought my plan of action would be to have enough for 1 percent of the people who would come through the doors.  Long story short, I got worried about running out of inventory so I added a bunch of fabric to my order.  Well, my sales weren’t what my anxiety was telling me they may be so I now have a bunch of extra fabric.

Remix it Real Good

Am I the only person who read that title and immediately started singing Push it from Salt-N-Pepa?  Man I love that song 🙂

After seeing the remixed version of the Bellevue pattern that Haley of Welcome to the Mouse House did for the anniversary blog tour, I knew I had to have one as well.  It wasn’t until I got the most perfect heather blue terry from Raspberry Creek Fabrics that I finally sat down and cut it out.  I already know this is going to be in constant rotation until May.
