I am a creature of habit when it comes to sewing. If I find a pattern that I love I will keep making it over and over in all the fabrics. When I lengthened the Laurelhurst for my Fall Collection post, I discovered just how much I love that pattern, like so much I want to wear one every day. The natural thing to do is sew up a bunch so that I can in fact wear one every day.

The Rain Can’t Stop Me
Let me paint you a picture. You get up in the morning and realize it is your one drop off day at preschool, there is 2 1/2 hours of freedom to be had in only a few short hours. Perfect opportunity to do a quick photoshoot after dropoff. So you get the kids fed and dressed then you put on your outfit do up your hair and makeup and head towards the door with all of your photography stuff and kids backpacks and jackets. It isn’t until you walk out the door you realize not only is it a little cold but gosh darnit it is raining.
Pattern Mixing Like a Boss
I think the best outfits are when you don’t think about any fashion ‘rules’ and just grab things you want to wear. Today I wanted to wear something different than I would normally ever wear and it just happened to be two completely different patterns, stripes and gingham, forcing me to do some pattern mixing like a boss! And really they are both blue so it totally works!
High Waisted and Loving It
I have never really been a skirt person. I want so badly to like skirts but I just find I am so much more comfortable in pants, jeans in particular. So when I signed up to sew a sample of the Brumby Skirt by Megan Nielsen for Indiesew I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. Even after sewing it I was still on the fence about whether it would even look good on my body, because I have a bit of junk in the trunk and there was a whole lot of fabric happening with this skirt.
Remix it Real Good
Am I the only person who read that title and immediately started singing Push it from Salt-N-Pepa? Man I love that song 🙂
After seeing the remixed version of the Bellevue pattern that Haley of Welcome to the Mouse House did for the anniversary blog tour, I knew I had to have one as well. It wasn’t until I got the most perfect heather blue terry from Raspberry Creek Fabrics that I finally sat down and cut it out. I already know this is going to be in constant rotation until May.
All You Need is A Vest
The key to successfully dressing for the weather, especially in the fall, is layers. And if we are talking about layers all you need is a vest and everything is right in the world. If that vest is plaid flannel with a sherpa lining there really isn’t anything better.
When I saw the Hero Vest by Make it Perfect, it was just calling to be a part of my wardrobe. Without even realizing it, I actually picked out fabric just like the pattern pictures on the website.

Upgrade My Momiform
When Lauren of Baste and Gather mentioned that she was going to be doing a blog tour focusing on a Momiform Makeover I was instantly onboard. As moms we can oftentimes find ourselves in a rut, where we just throw on the closest thing that’s clean and even sometimes we settle for cleanish. This blog tour gave me a chance to make something fun that would be different than what I normally wear, while still being something I will actually wear. So as a way to upgrade my momiform from jeans and t-shirts or jeans with a Greenwood and Laurelhurst, I am being serious here I would wear that combination every day, I decided to make my own pants and a fun top.
Favourite New Pullover
While pretty dresses and fancy shirts are fun to wear the real me can be found super casual in jeans and layers. The fall here in Seattle is totally unpredictable, like today for example, this morning it is sunny and clear skies with a real chill in the air. By this afternoon though it is going to be in the 70’s, so layers are key.
Enter my favourite new pullover, the Jasper from Paprika Pattern, which is perfect for those cool and crisp fall mornings. This can be made either as a pullover or a dress, which would be super fun with some leggings and knee high boots. This version though is much more my style.
Remix the Stitch – Day 10
I can’t believe we have arrived at the final day of the Remix the Stitch blog tour. Hosting a two week blog tour is no joke but based on the reactions from everyone it has definitely been worth all the work that was put into it. I have had so much fun reading these blog posts along side all of you. I can’t even begin to grasp the huge list of sewing projects that I now need to make just based on this tour. I think I am going to round everything up tomorrow so that there is a great reference guide with links to all of the remixes by pattern for future reference.
