For every fabric store I talk about with this series it so much fun to think back to what brought me to that store in the first place. Two years ago I joined Lauren Dahl for the testing of her Birkin Flares pattern and she was all about Cone Mills Denim in her jean making. One of the fabric shops she recommended was Threadbare Fabrics.which turned out to be a great resource for all of my future denim purchases. If you haven’t worked with cone mills denim it is life changing for jeans making. Such a great quality fabric.

Hampton Jean Vest
At the beginning of September I decided I was going to make the Hampton Jean Jacket. And shortly after proclaiming I was going to make one, Alina of Alina Design Co reached out to see if I wanted to a part of her Hampton Jacket blog tour. This was just the motivation I needed to get it made, otherwise I might sit on the denim for a year and never actually put it together.
Fabric Friday – Style Maker Fabrics
Happy Happy Fabric Friday!
I have spent the week finalizing the fit on my newest pattern, Leschi, and to say I am excited to send this to testers is an understatement. If you want a peek at the pattern head over to Instagram to see a few versions I have sewn up.
Earlier this week I shared my fall style using fabrics from Style Maker Fabrics Fall/Winter collection. There were so many other amazing fabrics that I wanted to work with for that blog post, so I thought todays Fabric Friday would be a great opportunity to talk even more about Style Maker Fabrics.
Style Maker Fabrics Fall Style Tour 2017
When Michelle of Style Maker Fabrics asked me to be a part of her Fall Style Tour I immediately said yes. Who doesn’t want to sew with dreamy fabric and then gush about it on their blog. I am joining quite a group of amazing sewists for the tour, so if you haven’t been following along last week make sure to go check the rest of the ladies out.
Fabric Friday – Indiesew
I am so glad that everyone is enjoying Fabric Friday as much as I am. I get such a kick out of searching through a stores inventory to find the fabrics I love and then thinking about the patterns on the market that would compliment the pattern best. To read past Fabric Friday posts head here.
Allie of Indiesew has been a part of my business journey from the beginning and every chance I get to shout my praise of her and her business I take. For those of you unfamiliar with Indiesew it is an online community for the modern sewist. There are indie sewing patterns, a creations section where you can upload your makes for others to see, and a blog full of super useful tips.
Seamwork Loretta
I have quite the growing collection of woven fabrics, but for years I almost exclusively sewed with knits. I never felt completely confident in my fabric knowledge and that kept me from really exploring more woven garment patterns. Now that I have a better handle on picking the fabrics that are more appropriate for the garment, I have a new love of woven garments.
Last week I was looking for a quick morning project and decided to find a pattern that would be perfect for this rayon chambray from Indiesew. Unfortunately this fabric is already sold out, but this black and white crepe would be amazing for this pattern. After scanning through my pattern collection I came across the Seamwork Loretta and knew it was the perfect choice.
Fabric Friday – Harts Fabric
Happy Friday. I am back with another Fabric Friday where every week I highlight a different independent fabric store and the fabrics I am loving at the moment. Last week I talked all about Blackbird Fabrics, and this week we are headed to both a brick and mortar and online store in Santa Cruz, Harts Fabric.
Remix the Stitch – Peplum Montlake
When I celebrated my first businessiversary in 2015 I compiled a HUGE blog tour highlighting some pretty fantastic bloggers. If you weren’t around then, I highly recommend going back and checking it out. So much inspiration. Full Collections of Posts Here
The theme of the blog tour was Remix the Stitch, where the bloggers took one of my patterns and remixed it any way they wanted. The end result was a huge collection of pattern hacks, so many I never would have thought of.
Fabric Friday – Blackbird Fabrics
I saw a funny meme the other day that said sewing and fabric buying are two separate hobbies. I always just thought of them as all part of the same thing, but over the last 6 months I have found myself collecting fabrics that I love, but at the same time being more intentional about the types of fabric I am buying. Sometimes there is a plan for that fabric and other times I just can’t imagine my life without the fabric. A bit dramatic yes, but also a bit of truth.
Full Time Pattern Designer
The fall always makes me want to start fresh. I don’t know if it is the kids going back to school or the aisles full of fun office supplies in every store, but whatever it is, fall is the time where I reflect on how the year is going and what ways I want to change for the upcoming year.
This fall is especially exciting for me because for the first time since starting this business in September of 2014, I am going to be a FULL TIME PATTERN DESIGNER. You guys it’s actually happening!!
