Cold Shoulder Montlake

Somehow I became the 30 something mom who sees a trend but by the time I get around to it all the ‘cool kids’ have moved onto something new.  I am pretty sure that is exactly the case with this cold shoulder Montlake.

I had no real interest in making one for myself but then I went and saw this cold shoulder Bellevue remix by Becca of Free Notion and just had to give it a try with my Montlake.

Straight Stitch Workroom

I have been dreaming and scheming with my husband about starting Straight Stitch Workroom for awhile.  I knew I wanted to find a venue where I could encourage other DIY creative entrepreneurs to look at new ways to expand their business both in a traditional and non-traditional way.  The Workroom is the perfect space for me to share what I have learned in a format that is easy and accessible to everyone on their own time frame.

Today I officially launch Straight Stitch Workroom with the exclusive pre-sale of my first course, Expanding your PDF Pattern Business by Moving to Print.

Sew Your Hart Out September

September is a pretty great month, not only is it back to school time but it is also my business anniversary.  Last year I did a HUGE blog tour that spanned 2 weeks with 30 different bloggers.  And while that was pretty amazing, I just did not have the mental energy to do that again.  It is hard work to put all of that together and to blog every single day for 2 weeks 🙂

Velcro® Brand Toss Game

It is the week of kids stuff and I couldn’t be happier.  I had forgotten how much I enjoy sewing things for my kids, whether it is clothes or fun things for around the house.  When Emily of Nap Time Creations asked if I would join her Summer Fun Series I quickly signed up, what a great excuse to focus on my kiddos this summer and making something fun for them.  For my project in the series I decided to go with a fun VELCRO® Brand Toss Game that actually turned into quite the scrap buster.

Summer Swimwear Tour

I feel like I haven’t sewn for my kiddos in forever, other than a few sets of pajamas that is pretty much true.  So when I was asked to join the Summer Swimwear Tour I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to sew some swimsuits for the kids.  My big plans of sewing swimsuits for both kids turned into just a swimsuit for Sophie, which turned out pretty darn cute.  Benny will get one eventually #secondkidproblems

Summertime as a Work at Home Mom

Every year we arrive in May with about a month left of school and I can’t wait for the day to day of getting to and from school to end.  But then before I know it school ends and I remember, as if I had parental amnesia, that summertime as a work at home mom is so far from the unstructured adventure I had imagined back in May.

Carkeek Remix

One of my favourite things to do is take one of my patterns and make a couple changes to get something new.  The Carkeek that I am sharing with you today is really filling a hole in my wardrobe, lightweight layer for cool summer evenings.  And with just a couple changes to the pattern as written you have what I am calling my Carkeek remix.

As you hopefully already know, the Carkeek dress is a free pattern available in 4 sizes that is available for download here.

Skirt Turned Luna Pants

My mother in law Linda is joining us on the blog today for a look at the fun refashion I did for her while she was visiting this weekend.

While getting ready for an upcoming move she found an old wrap skirt that Sean had gotten for her on one of his trips years ago.  While she liked the skirt, it is just too windy in Victoria for a wrap skirt so she asked if I could make it into some comfy pants.  Here is my take on a skirt turned Luna Pants.

Marigold Dress

Since participating in Me Made May this year I have been finding all kinds of clothes that I sewed up over the last 6 months that never made it here on the blog.  It has been fun to rediscover everything and actually take the time to photograph it for all of you.

This Marigold Dress by Blank Slate Patterns is a sample that I sewed up for Indiesew and knew almost immediately that I was going to love it for the spring and summer.  The fabric is such a lovely rayon that flows so it will be great when it starts getting warmer.
