Kids Clothes Week – Day 4

Day 4 was about getting things done.  I spent the morning cutting out fabric to make 3 different shirts.  Originally I had planned to make the Vintage V-Neck today but as I was cutting I got inspired by the Recess Raglan by See Kate Sew and some of the fun combinations I had in my stash so I went with that for today.

I have been dying to use the feather knit from Girl Charlee since it arrived and I knew that a super soft and heavy weight mustard yellow knit I had would work perfectly.  The end result was even better than I had envisioned.  I decided to try the elbow length for Sophie’s shirt and use the main fabric on the sleeve cuffs as well.

Shirt to Dress Refashion

I am linking up with Sew Much Ado again this week for her We did it Wednesday post.  If you get a chance to pop over there you will not be disappointed there are loads of really talented people linking of their fun projects they have completed.  You can click on the We did it Wednesday button on my sidebar.

For this weeks Refashion Wednesday I decided to take a waffle knit shirt I found for Sophie at Value Village and turn it into a dress.

Kids Clothes Week – Day 3

Oh for the love of Bimaa, what an amazing pattern!  Why did it take me so long to sew one of these.

When I laid eyes on this after what felt like 10 minutes of sewing I knew I was in for one of the best things I have ever sewn.

I will be honest at this point it was looking really professional, unlike some of my other projects.  My stripes were matched up along the sides and my seams were finished inside thanks to my amazing serger.  How did I possibly go this many years without a serger?

Kid’s Clothes Week – Day 1

If I had known it would be so much fun I would have participated in Kids Clothes Week so much sooner.  As I headed off to preschool with my oldest this morning all I could think about it would be a few hours before I could get started on my sewing for the day.  Once school was over I convinced the kiddos to play for a bit so I could make my first project of the week, the Sleepy Robe by Melly Sews.  Let me just start by saying what a great pattern this is.  Not only did she offer this pattern up to everyone for free, score!, but it is a quick and easy sew.  Start to finish it probably took me about an hour, but I know that is mostly because it was the first time I had done the pattern.

Kids Clothes Week

For close to a year I have watched all these amazing ladies create things for their kids during the biannual kids clothing week.  It always looks like so much fun I just never got my act together in time to participate.  Another edition start tomorrow and I actually planned everything out and got started last night prepping.  All of my patterns are cut out and ready for fabric tonight.  I am hoping to have all of the fabric cut out tonight so that tomorrow I can just hit the ground running sewing.  I know it is going to be a challenge since my list is actually quite ambitious in terms of time I have available during the week, but all of the patterns are ones I have been wanting to make and should be a nice variety for both kids.

Plaid Refashion

Welcome to another instalment of Refashion Wednesday, oh wait it’s actually Thursday, well lets just pretend it is Wednesday then.

After dropping Sophie off at a playdate yesterday I went for a quick trip to Value Village looking for a crew neck kids sweatshirt that I could make over since I had a project in mind.  Rookie mistake, you can’t go looking for something specific because they are never going to have it.  Since there was no crew neck sweatshirt to be found that would work I just started thumbing through the racks.

Finding the Balance

Finding balance in my life for all of the things I am involved in is difficult.  My main job right now is being a stay at home mom and for any of you who are doing the same you know that is an all consuming job.  Between coop preschool for both kids, weekly rotating playdate, ballet, visits with my family and general house stuff like laundry, cleaning and meals there is little time for anything else.  I find that I am waking up early and staying up late so I have time for my business.  I let the kids watch one more show so I can write a blog post or finish a sewing project, but I don’t want this time with my kids to be wasted.

Dress to Skirt Refashion

I am linking up today with Sew Much Ado and her We did it Wednesday post.  Check out all the other fun things people made today.  There is loads of inspiration to be had on her blog today.

When looking through my closet recently I came across a dress that was never in a million years getting worn again.  I would imagine that I am not the only person that has clothes like that.  At some point you bought it and liked it but then things change like your style or body shape and it no longer works.  You can always donate that clothing item but if it is a fabric that you like why not try to refashion it into something new for your wardrobe.

Pattern Test – Janey Jump Around

As I am working my way through my patterns to test them out and see which ones I like and which ones are not going to be a part of my shop, I came across one of the newest patterns by Amy of Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop.

Let me just say that she has done it again and released another amazing free pattern.  She has so many great patterns available but I love that she creates a new pattern every year to offer free to all of her fans.  All you have to do is subscribe to her newsletter and you can download the pattern.  Seriously, go check it out you will not be disappointed with the quality of pattern she is offering.
