As for The Nest Creations, we will be featured on Thursday with the other lovely handmade goods in the For the Littles section of the guide.

Since we have a few days until we are featured I thought I would give you a bit of a look at what sort of things you can find in my shop.

Men’s Dress Shirt to Fitted Tunic

Digging through my pile of thrift store finds I came across this x-large men’s dress shirt I had purchased and planned to refashion to a tunic for myself that I could wear with leggings and my favourite black boots.

It is exactly what I wanted, really big and long enough for a tunic.

First step was to put the shirt on and pin where I wanted it to come in.  As you can tell by the pin placement the shirt needed to come in quite a bit to fit me.  Because of how much the shirt had to come in I knew the pocket was going to need to be removed.  So I went ahead and started unpicking the pocket.

Handmade Holiday Gift Guide

I was selected to participate in Oh Sweet Joy’s 3rd Annual Handmade Holiday Gift Guide and I couldn’t be more excited.  This is going to be such great exposure for my little business and give me just the kick I need to try more patterns and get more things listed in my shop.

Because no one wants to visit a shop and not have there be anything in it I am aiming to add at least 7 more items to the shop this week thats on top of the 3 I just added tonight.  This is my game plan for the week.

Refashion A Large Sweater

I am slightly addicted to thrift shopping.  Not only is it a great place to get home goods and kids clothes but I think it is a great place to get fun fabrics and shirts for yourself.  I find that I like to shop in the large and xlarge section because I can always just take the clothing in to fit my size and you end up with a more custom piece of clothing.

On a recent trip to Value Village I found this Banana Republic sweater for $7 and thought I could do something cute with it.  I had seen this pin for a sweatshirt that was refashioned and was inspired by the zippers on the shoulders.

Sewing Space

One of the first posts I did on this blog was showing you what my sewing space looks like.  Read what I had to say about my sewing space before here.

Here is a picture of what my sewing space looked like a until today.

I am not even sure how I ever got anything done in that space.  It was cluttered and overwhelming to say the least.  Usually I would end up at the dining room table cutting out fabric and ironing because I just didn’t have the space I needed to work.  Don’t get me wrong I am so happy there is a place in the house for me to work I just needed to get a bit of organization in there so I could be more relaxed when sewing.

Kids Clothes Week Round Up

What a week KCW was.  I had no idea when I started that it would be so much fun and be just the push I needed to start sewing regularly again.  I totally get it now why all of these amazing bloggers do this two times a year.

Not only was it fun to make my projects but it was so great to see everything that other people were making, so much inspiration for future sewing.  I already have a new list of clothes started that I want to try.

Kids Clothes Week – Day 7

For the final day of kids clothes week I decided to give my nemesis for the week, the Vintage V-Neck, another try.  Considering I had already cut two more out I figured it was worth a try when I wasn’t rushed and could do a proper job of it.  I also decided to read each step carefully before sewing so I didn’t miss anything important.

Well wouldn’t you know when you actually read the instructions and follow along with the pictures everything makes sense and you are left with some super cute v-neck t-shirts.

Kids Clothes Week – Day 5

Day 5 was by far my biggest challenge which is actually quite funny considering all I was sewing was a t-shirt.  I think more of it had to do with Friday being a very busy day for me and still trying to squeeze sewing in.  I had done 4 days so far and I wanted to finish out the week strong but it quickly turned into just finishing the shirt.
